Dr Sejal Kelkar, MBBS, MD (Psychiatry), DPM, MRCPsych Dr Kelkar qualified in Mumbai, India, before moving to the UK to pursue specialist training in psychiatry. She moved to the North East of England for specialist training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and fell in love with the region. She has subsequently gained a wide range of experience as a consultant in the NHS and has a special interest in eating disorders and emotional disorders (including depression, anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder). Dr Kelkar is enthused and passionate about mental health and emotional well being in young people and is actively involved in teaching and training and has been a committee member for the North East branch of ACAMH. Along with being able to prescribe medication if required, she has also had training in other modalities such as Family Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Solution Focussed work, etc. Usually her management style is flexible depending on the needs of the young person and family. When she is not working she loves to read, walk and listen to music. She is a member of Royal College of Psychiatrists and is registered with the GMC (full registration no. 6029538). Dr Kelkar is approved under the Mental Health Act as having special experience in the diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders.
